A dramatic ancient town literally built on a cliff above a thundering waterfall. Furong (Hibiscus Town) is a surreal vision of traditional architecture suspended in mid-air. It feels like a movie set, and indeed, it gained fame from the 1980s film 'Hibiscus Town'.
With a history of over 2,000 years, it was once a transport hub for the Tujia kings. The sound of the water is ever-present, and the mist from the falls keeps the town cool and lush even in summer.
